Horsemanship Lessons with Jenny Paterson

Low Key, Interactive and Enjoyable!

Approximately half the lesson will be on the ground, half in the saddle. You have two 3 hour lessons in two days. One is not enough to turn the knowledge into a physical skill. By the end of the second lesson you are clear on things and getting pretty competent. Those who already have a lot of these skills will be in a separate lesson and we move on to more advanced things.

What do we do in Lessons?
During lessons we look at the total picture, discussing every thing from diet and how it may be affecting your horse to his feet, teeth, saddle and his general well-being. The goal is to achieve the horse that is 100% OK, 100% of the time.

We do some Groundwork.
There are fantastic benefits that come from becoming proficient at the groundwork. For both you and your horse. These skills, once learned, are with you for life. You will be so much more confident and effective with horses.
We work a lot on your feel and timing before you mount up. There are some great exercises for developing your feel and timing. (Getting in time with the horses feet.)
You will learn how observing your horse on the ground enables you to predict exactly how the horse will ride. A handy thing to know!
Learn how to 'unstick' the horses feet, thereby 'unsticking' his mind, ensuring he is in the 'right' frame of mind for horse-back riding!!
Learn how to thoroughly 'prepare' your horse for his comparatively confined lifestyle.
How to safely negotiate gateways, go into the stall or horsefloat. It is the means by which you teach him to 'stand tied', have his legs hosed, wear a cover, have his feet picked up, wear a saddle, bridle, and successfully carry a rider.
We will teach your horse how to 'Park". (How to automatically sidepass into position so you can mount from a block, a fence or a fender).

And we ride...
Everything you do on the ground relates to riding. You will learn how to stay out of trouble, what do in every situation you may encounter.
How to untrack the hind-quarters and do a one rein stop for emergencies.
How to achieve softness in the bridle.
Learn how to ride without pulling on the reins.
How to remove all the braces from your horse.
Lots of work on suppling.
Achieve a great 'go' button.
How to achieve a great walk.
Smooth transitions, Nice stops and fluid back-ups.
Achieve a balanced horse that doesn't fall in on circles.
Be 100% prepared for whatever you wish to do with your horse.
Problems will dissolve by osmosis!!
