LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO START (BREAK IN) YOUR YOUNGSTER? HERE'S GAVIN MORISON!

Nicole, Astrea and I live at Martinborough in the Wairarapa. This is 25kms south east of Masterton. Our property is set up safely for horses. All horses are kept on grass not in yards. We have a 60ft round pen to start the horses in, also an all weather arena.

The cost to start a horse is $1200 incl GST. It usually takes approx 4 weeks or a little longer if the weather is bad. When a horse is ready to go home we will ride the horse to demonstrate how it is going then we like to have the owner or rider ride the horse to make sure everyone is happy. You horse will be in a snaffle bridle and will walk, trot and canter on both reins freely and be responsive and light.

The idea is to give a horse a good foundation. 'Whatever' you plan to do with a horse they need a good foundation. Getting a good start for a horse is essential. I take my job very seriously.

We work with each horse as an individual and don't use force or restraint. For a horse to be soft and willing they must 'understand' what is being asked of them.

I have ridden all my life and have competed in many different types of horse events. I started my first horse as a teenager. For the last 12 years I have been fulltime starting horses professionally.

You are welcome to phone and discuss your horses start with us. Phone: (06) 306 8199
